Is this a knit blog?

No knitting pictures, I'm sorry!

I've been canoeing all day with the second graders. I'm beat! It's October in Michigan, but we didn't freeze to death. I did have to get into the river, but at least I only got wet up to my knees.

Two second graders plus me in a canoe was a really fun idea. (That was sarcasm) The girls that were with me have the experience of going down the river sideways, and backwards. We also got stuck in a downed tree and a couple of sandbars. And a big biker dude said I have more cahonies than he does!!

We did paddle across the lake without mishap. Thank God, and all that is Holy!! People were scaring me about the lake. I made it across the lake!!

We saw heron, salmon, turtles, and seagulls. We also got to see the wild life worker people harvesting the salmon. It was pretty cool.

LD is a good paddler, but at the half wayish point the kids switched, and the second girl did not want to paddle, except when I'd tell her not to paddle. She also had a hard time with left and right. Oh well, we're home and warm, and dry (now)!

Knitting Stuff Tomorrow!! (I hope)

Ha ha ha, that sounds like fun! NOT. Actually, I like canoeing & rowing & all that...with people WHO CAN ROW. I'm just glad you survived.

What fun it sounds like you had! I'm from Mi so I can just imagine what it was like. I got my degree from Mich State in fisheries so many a day I did just what you were doing only with some geeky guys. I bet your companions were a lot more fun than mine!

Nothing like a bit of 'cold' fun to remind you that you're alive. Ah, the great outdoors... Sounds like you all had fun.

I must admit I'm not even a little bit jealous. While I love canoeing, the idea of doing it in freezing weather with second graders definitely rates up there with "stick a fork in my eye" and "eat glass". Glad you're home and dry! :)

You're a braver woman than me. Glad you got home safe.

how fun that you got to go canoeing! At least you know LD is a good paddler. :)

I'm nuts, but I know right where you were and I love that canoe trip. The lake is always placid, so unless you've got a couple of kids jumping around in the canoe you should oughta be fine crossing it. There are a couple of places in the river that are more adventurous than the lake. Sounds like a lovely time.
So glad you are loving the long row knitting.

I'm not much of a water person (I hate to be cold and I can't swim very well). But that actually sounds like it was fun. :) I have a few phobias to deal with and then maybe I'll give some of the more extreme past times a whirl.

Sounds like you saw some great sites, but I'm afraid my stomach might have disagreed with the backwards and sideways! I don't think I could have knit under those circumstances ;)
